FileBack PC still left the manually modified file "as is" on the destination, even though it's size and date to not match that of the source version.

This is correct. The "delete before copy" feature is not available in synchronization mode. Do you need to copy files both directions? If not, backup mode is more appropriate, and would allow use of this option.

The files will not automatically cleanup. When FileBack PC tries to manage these files, it is being prevented from doing so, thus the error messages you are seeing. You should delete the .tmp files manually.

That's a very sensible strategy. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm wondering about the X.tmp files that have been building up. I assume that FileBack PC will clean those up during a subsequent run. (I am using sync. mode)

Following my last post I did some more experimentation and learned that this problem is more likely to occur on folders containing a large number of files. The example error I posted earlier in this thread was taken from a folder with about 3000 files. On smaller folders ...

Normally FileBack PC makes a temporary copy of your files in the destination to make sure that the file can be backed up before it deletes the file that already exists in the destination. This prevents existing backups from being lost if the source file cannot be copied. Then once the file is copied successfully, the previous version is renamed or deleted, and the temporary file renamed with its correct name.

This behavior does not always work with all devices, however. SAMBA shares, in pa...

After a lot of testing, I think I have found the source of this problem.

The problem occurs when FileBack PC generates an automatic "include" in "Edit Folder Exception List" as a result of explicitly selecting a sub folder for inclusion. This "include" effectively overrides any global excludes for the folders below it.

It appears that FileBack PC processes its global excludes before its folder excludes. This means that it's possible to "undo"...
