Interface Basics

The PicSwitcher window is divided into four sections:

Source
Selection

Output
Options

Area

Between these sections you will find divider bars.  If the main PicSwitcher window has been resized you can drag these divider bars to change the size of the Image Source Selection and Image Selection areas.

The Image Source Selection area is where you may select the source for your images, whether that be a scanner, digital camera, the system clipboard, or a folder on your computer.  If a folder is selected, navigation is performed in the same way as the Windows Explorer.

The Image Selection area allows previewing single images, or selection of multiple images for processing.  Click on the checkmark () next to each image to select it for processing.

The Output Options area allows the method of output to be selected, and set the various options to make this possible.  Select the tab of the type of output you would like to make, then set the various options available.

In the lower right-hand portion of the window is the Image Preview area.  This is where you can quickly see a preview of the image you have selected, with the selected changes applied if desired.

The two tabs "Original Image" and "Output Image" allow you to compare the original image, as it is currently stored on disk, with the image which will be saved or converted.

The "Zoom" drop-down list allows the zoom setting of the preview window to be set.  Use the drop-down arrow to view the available options, or enter your own zoom setting and press Enter to have it applied.

If you wish to use the keyboard to zoom in and out, hold down the Control key, and press the Left and Right Arrow keys.

If the entire image does not fit in the preview area, you can either scroll it by using the Grab tool, or by dragging it with your right mouse button.

New Interface Components

One type of interface component used by PicSwitcher that you might not be familiar with is the drop-down button.  It works like a combination of a standard button and a drop-down list.  Clicking on the left portion of the button selects the option shown ("Save Image As" in this example).  Clicking on the drop-down arrow will bring up a list of other operations that can be performed with the button.  Selecting one of these options changes the default action of the button, and performs that action immediately as well.
First, you will find checkboxes () in the Image Selection area.  Clicking on this checkbox selects or deselects the image for batch conversion.  Also in the Image Selection area, you will find a series of icons () used to turn specific image alteration options on and off.  These options are enabled when they show up in color, disabled when displayed in gray.  Click on these icons to turn that particular alteration on and off.   These icons represent, from left to right: Rotation, Resize, Background, Border, and Bevel, Filter, and Recolor.  In this example all options are selected.
