I would like to use Windows XP's CD burning capability with FileBack PC

Windows XP has the capability of writing files to CD.  It is not turned on by default, and first must be enabled.  To enable it:
  1. Open "My Computer"
  2. Right-click on your CD drive and select Properties.
  3. Navigate to the "Recording" tab.
  4. Turn on the "Enable CD recording on this drive" option.
  5. Make sure the drive selected under the "Select a drive where Windows can store an image of the CD..." option has enough space to store your files before writing.

Instead of writing the files directly to the drive letter of your CD drive you need to backup the files to a 'Staging Area' folder on your hard drive; XP does not actually support direct writing to CD.  If you are running one of the newer 4.0 releases, FileBack PC's advanced job editor should automatically detect that you are attempting to use a CD as your backup destination and will ask to substitute the drive letter with the staging area variable {FB$XPCDBURNING} if XP's CD writing feature is turned on.  Otherwise you can set your destination to the staging area folder manually:

c:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning

You should either use the FileBack PC variable {FB$XPCDBURNING} or the above folder as your backup destination instead of the drive letter of your CD drive.  (Be sure and substitute the grayed text as necessary.) At this point, you may save your job and start the backup.  Once the backup begins a popup balloon will appear allowing the files to be written to CD.
